Background The Vitra furniture company produces top quality designer furniture and creates interior spatial solutions. This interest in design and investigation has urged the company to employed reknowned architects from all around the world to build the Vitra Museum, Campus and factories. The Vitra Compound contains buildings designed by Zaha Hadid, Nicholas Grimshaw, Frank Gehry, Jean Prouvé, Richard Buckmister Fuller, Álvaro Siza, Herzog & De Meuron and Tadao Ando.
Personal Intention The designers were given the freedom to choose where on the compound they designed their building. I chose to place my building in the space I considered most relevant. I designed my building in relation to Tadao Ando’s Vitra contribution. The way his building interacts with the surrounding space creates an atmosphere that I wanted to explore and develop in my own building. My intention was to create a counterpoint to the space created by Tadao Ando, in geometry and in position. His intervention opened up new spaces that my building defines and underlines.
