Apartment Refurbishment. Madrid (Spain). 2016

Status  The construction started at the end of 2016 and ended in April of 2017.

Site  A 13 story block of apartments in Madrid’s Retiro neighbourhood.

Brief  To renovate and refurbish a city apartment in the center of Madrid. The clients wanted to update the kitchen and both bathrooms and to redo all the electrical and water installation to make it more efficient and cost-effective.

Program  120 square metres of residence

  • Kitchen
  • Sitting Room
  • Study
  • 3 Bedrooms
  • 2 Bathrooms

Background  The site is located in the residential neighbourhood of the Retiro. This community is located within the M-30 ring road, and has excellent transport links to the rest of the city, making it a strategic enclave. However, the area’s principal attraction is the Retiro Park, Madrid’s oldest and most important public park. Even though nowadays there are larger parks located on the outskirts of the city, the Retiro continues to be an oasis in the middle of the city, a green lung that breathes new life into Madrid.

The block of apartments in question was built in the 1970’s and the client’s apartment had not been changed since its construction.

Personal Intention  I have fulfilled my remit by refreshing the entire space and bringing it into the new century. The kitchen and bathrooms have been adapted to the client’s new requirements using clean, neutral tones and crisp edges.
